Bio
Dan Musgrove is an Emmy award-winning New Zealand writer, producer and actor. His credits include several seasons of the smash-hit crime drama Westside, winner of Best NZ Drama at the New Zealand Television Awards in 2018 and 2019. Dan both wrote for and starred in the series, building on his breakout lead role in Underbelly NZ: Land of the Long Green Cloud — a performance that made him a familiar face to audiences throughout Aotearoa.
As an actor, Dan has since appeared in some of the country’s most beloved scripted titles, including Go Girls, The Brokenwood Mysteries, and My Life Is Murder, alongside a broad slate of comedy and drama credits.
As a writer, Dan’s work spans premium drama and sharp, genre-bending comedy. He wrote and script-edited the dystopian Hulu comedy-drama Creamerie, which featured on The New York Times list of Best TV Shows on Streamers in 2021 and won Best Drama at the 2022 NZTV Awards. He also script-produced the acclaimed half-hour comedy Homebound 3.0, described by local critics as “the TV rom-com we’ve all been waiting for,” later picked up by the BBC.
Dan is the co-founder of Luminous Beast, one of Aotearoa’s most innovative new production companies. In 2020, he co-created the SKY Originals psychological thriller INSiDE, shot entirely during COVID lockdown. The ground-breaking series earned multiple international honours, including the 2021 International Emmy for Short Form Series. Luminous Beast’s recent co-production, the one-hour drama After the Party, debuted to universal acclaim, multiple awards, and was hailed by critics as “the best TV drama we’ve ever made.”
