Bio
Daniel Watterson graduated from The Actor’s Program in 2014. He also holds a BA with double majors in Theatre and English Literature, and an LLB (Hons 1st).
Daniel first gained notoriety in sell-out 12 week seasons of Twelfth Night & Romeo and Juliet at the Pop Up Globe, the largest theatrical event of 2016, in which his portrayal of Olivia received widespread acclaim. In the same year, his work was praised in theatrical debut productions of Ain't That A Bitch, and Lucrece. In 2017, he impressed theatre audiences again as Tristan in The Effect, and as Thomas in Venus in Fur. Daniel returned to NZ stages in 2021 touring the sell-out 12 week season of the hugely successful Things I Know to Be True.
TVNZ's Dirty Laundry (2016) marked Daniel's screen debut as regular antagonist, Nathan. Since then he has appeared regularly on NZ & international screens, including notable appearances as popular villain Shaman in The New Legends of Monkey (Netflix), in romantic comedy Falling Inn Love (Netflix), and local shows Westside, Why Does Love? & Aitu. He plays a lead role in feature film Ablaze, based on the true story of the 1947 Christchurch Ballantynes Fire, New Zealand’s deadliest fire.
