Bio
A formidable presence on screen and stage, Elizabeth Hawthorne has been in hot demand the last few years, securing lead roles in several film and television projects in New Zealand. Her most recent credits include Faith in The Moon is Upside Down for which director Loren Taylor won the Tallin Black Nights First Feature Competition, Fran in Friends Like Her (Great Southern TV), and Evelyn Middleton in Dark City: The Cleaner (Warner Bros Discovery).
Elizabeth has played numerous roles alongside international stars in overseas projects such as Don’t Make Me Go, Mortal Engines, The Light Between Oceans, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Sweet Tooth S2, and Cowboy Bebop.
Other notable credits that attest to Elizabeth’s incomparable part in New Zealand film and television history include Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners, Xena: Warrior Princess, Jack Be Nimble, Hercules, Shortland Street, Outrageous Fortunes, and My Life is Murder.
It is no surprise that she was honoured in 2001 for her services to the Theatre, being made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
We will see Elizabeth next alongside Melanie Lynskey and Robyn Malcolm in Robert Sarkies’ drama, Pike River.
