Bio
Undoubtedly one of Aotearoa’s most esteemed and experienced acting professionals, Irene carries over five decades’ worth of expertise. Perhaps most widely associated with her hard-drinking, legendary role as Nan McCann on five seasons of Go Girls, she has also appeared in the fourth season of Outrageous Fortune as Mrs Webster, Liz Stokes for her enjoyable stint on Shortland Street, and Sybll in Lord of The Rings. Her 2010 comedy, Rest For The Wicked, memorably saw her play sex-crazed pensioner Dorothy, alongside Ilona Rodgers. In 2018 she appeared in Christian Rivers’ feature Mortal Engines, and in 2019 played Hanna in Roger Krumble’s Netflix-backed film Falling Inn Love.
Irene brings her signature sense of playful irony to all roles and speaks fondly of roles which allow her to ‘make a fool of herself’ before an audience.
