Bio
Kate was cast in her first professional acting role at age 18, and went on to tour with theatre companies in NZ, the UK, and Australia. Kate’s recent solo play I’ll Tell You This for Nothing – My Mother the War Hero premiered in Wellington in 2018. Kate has since performed this play 96 times, around New Zealand, at the Edinburgh Fringe and the Adelaide Fringe (where the Sunday Mail acclaimed, I’ll Tell You This for Nothing Best Female Solo Theatre Show 2020). In 2020 Kate gave a Command Performance for the Governor General Dame Patsy Reddy, and in 2022 performed a season at Circa Theatre in Wellington. I’ll Tell You This for Nothing was published in 2021.
Kate worked as a designer for professional theatre in NZ, UK and Sydney, and for TV2 (NZ), BBC TV (London), RTE TV (Dublin), and for several feature films. As a film director, she made a number of short films, directed TV drama, and won an NZFTV award for her TV drama Xmas for Lou. Kate was the originator and producer of the highly successful Hens' Teeth Women's Comedy Company that entertained NZ audiences for over 13 years. In 2020 Kate produced, directed and compered the sell-out season of The Older the Better at Circa Theatre.
