Bio
A leading identity in the New Zealand acting fraternity, Mark Hadlow has been a professional actor for over 45 years. His career pathway has been aligned with many aspects of the entertainment industry. Theatre performance has been the core component of his talent, which has led him to a successful film, television, radio, voice over, mentoring and motivational speaking career.
An Australian born New Zealander, his acting is his passion. The 230 plus theatre roles have been diverse; from walk on servants to leading roles in comedies, tragedies, dramas, musicals and one man shows earning him award nominations and best actor awards. He won best actor in a Theatre performance at the NZ Tui Awards in 1994 and won NZ Entertainer of the Year in 1995.
He has worked throughout New Zealand for all the professional Theatre Companies, and in Australia, the West End, Edinburgh Festival, Europe and the Adelaide Arts Festival as well as many regional and national arts festivals in New Zealand. Mark has been in many musicals, his favourite Little Shop of Horrors, acting/singing/directing in 3 different productions.
He has worked extensively in New Zealand TV, notably the Billy T James Show, Willy Nilly and Colonial Combat set in 1830s New Zealand, as well as many other tv shows.
He has acted in many short films and feature films and had the fortune to be cast as Dori the Dwarf in the Hobbit Trilogy, directed by Sir Peter Jackson; as well as roles in King Kong, Mortal Engines and the cult classic, Meet the Feebles. He won best actor for his role in the Stef Harris Film Blue Moon, at the IPAAF in Italy and has just completed filming the sequel to Blue Moon, Blood Moon, soon to be released. In 2025 he was cast in the film, Chisinau My Love, filmed on location in Moldova.
Voice work is also another award winning example of his talent. Countless radio commercials, animated short film characters and documentaries feature strongly in his repertoire; earning him best character voice over artist in the 2010 New Zealand Radio Awards.
Mark is an advocate for live performance, especially on stage in theatres from 20 to 2000 seats and more. His many performances have notched up an impressive number of productions which continues to drive his desire to seek new roles and challenges endorsing performance art and culture in the NZ entertainment industry. Ultimately he’s an actor in whatever genre he’s in and delivers his craft with passion and professionalism
