Bio

Born and raised in Koputai Port Chalmers in Ōtākou, Pinky has carved out a varied career, working as a clerical worker, union organiser and educator, singing telegram girl, actor, writer, and wedding & funeral celebrant. In 2004 Pinky was invested as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for her services to entertainment. 

The late 1990s through to the early 2000s Pinky played the role of Jenny Shipley in the comedy series McPhail & Gadsby alongside long-time friend and collaborative writing partner, Lorae Parry (Helen Clark).  Pinky and Lorae went on to create multiple theatre shows including the well-received stage show Leading Ladies which toured New Zealand from 1997 to 2014. 

Other creative highlights include; theatre shows Pinky Pops In, Grumpy Old Women, Party Girls, The Truth About Love, The Candidates, Sex Drive, Peter Pan: The Pantomime, political comedy Destination Beehive and she was a core cast member of the women’s comedy group Hens’ Teeth.   Pinky is a stalwart of Radio working for RNZ National’s Nine to Noon show, with Te Radar and Kathryn Ryan and has had three published collections of readings for ceremonies – Heartsongs and Lifesongs (Random House), This is Farewell (Mrs Black Books) along with her self-published comic poetry Pinky’s Poems

Pinky is married to Allan Abbott with a loving supportive family and resides in Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
