As well as an actor and theatre maker, Sally is a singer song writer. She released her debut album in 2015 and is working on her 2024 album release. She also works as a voice / singing coach and voice over artist.
Sally Stockwell is an actor, singer-songwriter and theatre maker. She trained at Toi Whakaari / New Zealand Drama School (1993-95) and has studied voice, choreographic theatre and clown in France (Pan Theatre/voice; Philippe Gaulier/clown), London (Royal National Theatre Studio scholarship) and New Zealand. TV and film credits include Outrageous Fortune, Insider’s Guide to Happiness, Shortland Street, Nothing Trivial, Agent Anna and After the Waterfall. She’s been nominated and awarded for various industry awards for both in television and theatre (Chapman Tripp Awards, Quantas TV Awards).
Alongside acting for 25 years in NZ theatre and screen, Sally has specialised in voice through her teaching, song-writing and performance. She’s taught voice for Auckland University, Auckland Unitec, The Actor’s Program (TAP), Mixit (youth group), community choirs, world choirs and private students. In 2015, she released and toured her debut album Weightless. She has performed her music at various music events such as Music in Parks, Splore and Titirangi Festival of Music.
Sally’s study in dance and her physical theatre training have enabled her to work as a multi-skilled performer in many shows such as Red Leap’s The Arrival (devising company member 2009 - 2012, touring Wellington, Melbourne and Singapore), devised dance theatre work Dark Tourist (Malia Johnston and Emma Willis. Auckland) and directing physical theatre show The Keepers (Auckland, Basement Theatre). Sally has created her own theatre works which amalgamate her original live music, acting and movement. Recent works include Gravity Hotel, Firefly (2017 Auckland Arts Festival 2017 RAW series) and her latest solo show We’ve Got So Much To Talk About which has received ed critical acclaim over its 2023 national tour.
